Oxidative stress links periodontal inflammation and renal function

چکیده

Aims Patients with chronic kidney disease (CKD) are also susceptible to periodontitis. The causal link between periodontitis and CKD may be mediated via systemic inflammation/oxidative stress. Using structural equation modelling (SEM), this cross-sectional study aimed explore the relationship periodontal inflammation (PI) renal function. Materials methods Baseline data on 770 patients stage 3–5 (pre-dialysis) from an ongoing cohort were used. Detailed, bioclinical PI function, as well potential confounders mediators of two, collected. SEMs increasing complexity created test assumption that affects function vice versa. Results Structural confirmed causally linked, by oxidative magnitude effect was such a 10% increase in resulted 3.0% decrease 25% PI. Conclusions Periodontal represents occult source stress CKD. Further clinical studies needed confirm whether therapy, non-pharmacological approach reducing inflammatory/oxidative burden, can improve outcomes

Stress increases periodontal inflammation

This study aimed to examine the effect of chronic restraint stress (RS) on the severity of experimental periodontal disease in rats. A total of 32 male Sprague Dawley (SD) rats were divided into four groups: i) Rats receiving two treatment regimens, chronic stress induced by movement restriction in acrylic cylinders for 1-1.5 h daily and induction of experimental periodontal disease, using a ny...

Oxidative Stress and Inflammation in Renal Patients and Healthy Subjects

The first goal of this study was to measure the oxidative stress (OS) and relate it to lipoprotein variables in 35 renal patients before dialysis (CKD), 37 on hemodialysis (HD) and 63 healthy subjects. The method for OS was based on the ratio of cholesteryl esters (CE) containing C18/C16 fatty acids (R2) measured by gas chromatography (GC) which is a simple, direct, rapid and reliable procedure...

Exercise decreases oxidative stress and inflammation and restores renal dopamine D1 receptor function in old rats.

Recently, we reported that oxidative stress decreases D1 receptor numbers and G protein activation in renal proximal tubules (RPT), resulting in diminished natriuretic response to dopamine in old rats. We tested the hypothesis that exercise in old rats will decrease oxidative stress and restore natriuretic response to D1 receptor agonist, SKF 38393. Old (23 mo) rats were subjected to rest (sede...

Association between Oxidative Stress, Systemic Inflammation and Renal Function in Type 2 Diabetic Nephropathy

Diabetic nephropathy (DN) is a metabolic disorder with high rate of morbidity and mortality. Global pattern of diabetic nephropathy incidence is not entirely explored, but its incidence has already occurred widely and is estimated to be increased in prevalence [1]. However, DN is one of the main microvascular diabetic complications that leads to renal failure worldwide [2-5]. While, DN occur in...

Empagliflozin alleviates renal inflammation and oxidative stress in streptozotocin-induced diabetic rats partly by repressing HMGB1-TLR4 receptor axis

Objective(s): Empagliflozin, a sodium-glucose cotransporter-2 (SGLT-2) inhibitor, possesses verified anti-inflammatory and anti-oxidative stress effects against diabetic nephropathy. The present investigation aims to examine empagliflozin effects on the renal levels of high mobility group box-1 (HMGB1), a potent inflammatory cytokine, and its respective receptor toll-like receptor-4 (TLR-4) in ...
